DCM visits Gibraltar International Chess Festival
INTERVIEW ON THE DAILY WEB CHESS SHOW
Interview with Jovanka Houska, commentator and British Women’s Champion.
Dr Garcia said chess had "put Gibraltar on the map".
The festival had not just encouraged the younger generations in Gibraltar to play chess but it had also put Gibraltar on the map, he said
“There are many international sports and events that take place in Gibraltar and have taken place over the years but I think chess is the most international."
“To have 62 countries represented here today is an immense achievement."
“I don’t believe another sport equals this in terms of participation and number of countries represented. Congratulations to everyone all round. Brian Callaghan and everyone involved."
“It is very encouraging to see the development of junior chess locally, and as a Government in our manifesto we had a commitment to the development of chess in Gibraltar and that is exactly what we are going to do.”
